U.S. has lost its moral compass so Russia will prevail in Ukraine

John Floyd

The United States has lost its moral compass. America, in the not-too-distant past, possessed unequivocal and correct morals founded on the principles of appropriate conduct toward other Americans.

Right and wrong seem to have had definition changes as evidenced by Wall Street transgressions; entertainment industry lifestyles, using that word loosely; political scandals perpetuated by self-serving politicians; sports figures who conduct themselves more like hooligans than athletes; ministers who support their existence promoting racism; thieving doctors in the medical community; a legal system out of control; and a national media that has lost all sense of objectivity. This is only a partial list of individuals and organizations in the United States that have seemingly sold their soul to the devil.

I don’t mean to broad brush the listed organizations, but there are certain segments and individuals that should be excised from the professions they represent. There are individuals on Wall Street, and I use this term to represent the business community, who destroy livelihoods of common Americans. With all their get-rich schemes, someone has to lose, and it is usually the man on the street, the most vulnerable of all investors.

I personally know individuals who thought they had money for retirement but watched it disappear because of the actions of men like Bernie Madoff, king of all Ponzi schemes. Madoff will be incarcerated for the rest of his life, but that doesn’t do anything for investors who lost their life savings.

The entertainment industry, “Hollywood”, does great harm to both children and adults, in other words, the entire spectrum of American life. Many of America’s children consider Hollywood figures as role models, absolutely the worst example young people could choose.

The entertainment industry’s lifestyle is so foreign to mainstream America one has to wonder why vile speaking drug abusers can have such a dramatic influence on both children and adults. Could it be that mainstream America, after broadside after broadside, has become de-sensitized to the sex, murder, and mayhem that are a continuing and expanding product of Hollywood?

One cannot keep up with sports figures unless you know their jail numbers. Professional basketball and football leagues seem to be internship training for murder and other grievous manifestations against people who support their exalted existence. Professional sports role models exist for America’s young people but are few and far between. For every true role model, there are 20 hooligans.

So-called religious ministers in the United States continually inflame the American public about racism because racism is their “raison d’etre”, reason to be. If these ministers couldn’t keep the flames of racism fanned, their existence as religious leaders would be questionable. Much worse are the predatory priests of the Catholic Church. Predatory priests have committed the most egregious of crimes hiding behind the cloak of Christianity.

The medical profession through actions of many medical professionals has become one of the biggest drug pushers in America. Doctor after doctor has been charged with issuing prescriptions under very questionable circumstances. Some doctors treat patients for non-existent illnesses and perform unnecessary surgeries, both to generate tainted income.

The legal profession plays games with laws of the United States. Lawyers look for any loophole that will generate income for them individually or for their firm. Unprincipled lawyers have created a legal environment of questionable sustainability.

The United States is reaching overload on frivolous lawsuits that suffocate the court systems and cause important litigation delays. That may be good with the soft-headed judges now populating the judiciary system.

The media of the United States, both print and television, need to do a self-analysis of how news is being presented to the American public. Too much attention is paid to the personalities presenting the news, and not enough attention is paid to news content.

In the United Kingdom, where I lived for four years, the newscasters there were called news readers. The network basically read the news as it happened and left the interpretation of the news to the listener. That is the way it should be in the United States

Last but not least, the contemptible and miserable politicians who populate Congress and the American government couldn’t find the word “morality” in the dictionary.

Loss of morality in the United States did not start in the Obama Administration, but it has accelerated under this do-nothing president. It is not what Obama has done. He doesn’t know anything to do but jump on Air Force One and give an eloquent speech.

Only one speech I have ever heard changed a nation, and that was President John F. Kennedy’s speech when he asked a nation not what your country could do for you, but what could you do for your country. President Kennedy’s speech was a unifying call that was heeded by most Americans.

Conversely, President Obama has created a division among classes and races that can lead to the failure of this once-great nation.

John Adams warned the United States about Presidents like Obama. He said, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.” The United States is presently on track to making John Adams a prophet. We are already through the “wastes phase” and are now becoming “exhausted.” America began murdering itself long ago.

The murdering process started when people had to start locking their doors. It started when a young person could no longer go to a movie without being in danger, and police, our protectors, being treated by the judicial system as the enemy. The murdering process accelerated when President Barack Obama chose to pit white against black instead of acting as a unifying influence. It accelerated dramatically when he decided to separate Americans by class.

I don’t care whether you are black or white, liberal or conservative, rich or poor. Please take an objective look at what President Obama has allowed to happen to our country. I say allowed because he has not been totally responsible.

Moral destruction acceleration is the product of a left-leaning bureaucracy put in place by the President and left-leaning members of the Democrat Party. The leftist bureaucracy drafts questionable and restrictive legislation for Congressional Democrat robots to pass.

I long for a time when a 10 year-old boy could walk the nation’s streets without fear.

Do citizens of the United States have the ability or desire to recover moral values of past years? It had better!

After reading this above article, I would like to add that a nation that manipulates election results in foreign countries, and the one responsible for the coup in Ukraine has no moral standing to ask Russia to withdraw from Crimea. Russia and other countries will continue to brush aside the U.S. forever till the U.S recover their moral values. EU and Israel and other countries should learn from the U.S and change their wicked immoral ways or I fear the worst.

The same thing which happened to the Roman Empire seems to choke the U.S.

Ukraine Fears It May Be The Next Target For Russia

KIEV, Ukraine — Ukraine fears it could be the next target of Russia’s campaign to reassert influence over countries it long dominated in the Soviet Union, with Moscow well placed to foment separatist feelings in its Russian-speaking regions.

A sailor takes part in a pro-Russia gathering in support of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet that is based in Ukraine’s Crimean port of Sevastopol August 21, 2008. Ukraine, which has backed Georgia in armed clashes with Moscow over South Ossetia, is angry Russia has used ships based on Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula to take troops to Georgia, and has ordered tighter monitoring on Russian naval movements.

Ukraine stood by Georgia in its war with Russia over the region of South Ossetia. President Viktor Yushchenko traveled to Georgia to show his support and announced tougher rules on Russian naval movements from a base in Ukraine.

And in a departure from his usual careful balancing act between Russian and Western interests, Yushchenko attacked Russia over South Ossetia in a way more akin to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Some political analysts say that could heighten the risk.

“When Ukraine prioritizes its national interests, it goes against Russia’s interests and, of course, there will be conflict,” said Viktor Chumak, an analyst for Ukraine’s International Centre for Policy Studies.

“And Russia has broken through a psychological barrier to start this kind of war on former Soviet territory … Georgia had created itself in the shape of an enemy of Russia, and many in Russia already see us in the same way … We probably rank third in the list of Russia’s leading enemies.”

Both born out of bloodless revolutions, one orange and one rose, Yushchenko and Saakashvili’s administrations want to join NATO, the European Union and secure close ties with the United States.

Like Georgia, Ukraine was not put on the fast-track to NATO membership at the alliance’s summit last April, but was promised it would be allowed in one day.

All of this has angered Russia which is fearful of having the Western military alliance on its doorstep.

Other former Soviet republics have also been considering their rankings. Moldova, whose Communist government has courted the West rather than traditional ally Russia, fears it has taken the same path as Georgia and has Russian peacekeepers patrolling in its separatist Transdniestria region.

Even Belarus’s leader, Alexander Lukashenko, initially distanced himself from the war, which was criticized in the West. But subsequently, at Moscow’s prompting, he praised Russia’s “wisdom” in the way it handled the crisis.

CRIMEA

Analysts say the Crimea region in southern Ukraine could be used by Russia to destabilize Ukraine. It hosts Russia’s Black Sea fleet in Sevastopol and the majority of people living there are ethnic Russians.

Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine could also provide fertile ground, the analysts say.

Chumak said Russia could take advantage if Ukrainian politicians failed to resolve their differences and continued to let legislation slide. Yushchenko and his prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, have sparred over almost all policy decisions since she came to power in December.

“In that situation then Russia will start playing games, start provoking Ukraine, especially with Crimea,” he said.

Yushchenko was quick to call on the West to protect Georgia’s territorial integrity.

“When we think about our position on Georgia, I have no doubts … The loss of sovereignty, putting into doubt the territorial integrity of Georgia — this means revising the sovereignty of all,” Yushchenko, swept to power by the 2004 “Orange revolution”, said in a statement.

Russia could also hold Ukraine ransom over its gas supplies. Moscow controls about 80 percent of Ukraine’s supplies and in 2006 Russia cut supplies to Ukraine over a pricing dispute.

“There is a reason to be wary in the short-term future, there is a threat in that Ukraine is similar to Georgia in terms of what has happened in recent years,” said political analyst Oleksander Dergachev.

“But I find it difficult to think that the threat posed is a military one. Russia relies on the fact that it has more of an influence over Ukraine economically.”

Most analysts cautioned against scare-mongering and said Ukraine could avoid confrontation by taking a pragmatic stance first and then reforming its economy in the long-term.

“If Ukraine sorts out its domestic situation and consolidates its foreign policy in terms of European and Atlantic integration and this goes at a good pace then we can avoid the South Ossetian scenario,” Chumak said.

“I mean there is no stronger enemy to Ukraine than Ukraine itself, especially its politicians.”

Ukraine offers satellite defence co-operation with Europe and US

TELEGRAPH.CO.UK

Ukraine inflamed mounting East-West tensions yesterday by offering up a Soviet-built satellite facility as part of the European missile defence system.

The proposal, made amid growing outrage among Russia’s neighbours over its military campaign in Georgia, could see Ukraine added to Moscow’s nuclear hitlist. A Russian general declared Poland a target for its arsenal after Warsaw signed a deal with Washington to host interceptor missiles for America’s anti-nuclear shield.

The move came as the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, signed a cease-fire deal that sets the stage for a Russian troop withdrawal after more than a week of warfare with its neighbour Georgia.

The deal calls for both Russian and Georgian forces to pull back to positions they held before fighting erupted on August 8. As of last night, though, there was little apparent evidence of a Russian pull-out from the Georgian town of Gori, which Russian tanks and troops took last weekend. Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, insisted a broader withdrawal would be contingent on further security measures.

Just hours before Mr Medvedev put his signature to the ceasefire deal, Russian forces blew up a Georgian railway bridge on the main line west of the capital, Tbilisi, an act that critics interpreted as a malacious attempt to cripple the country’s infrastructure. Moscow at first issued a denial, but television footage shot by the Reuters news agency clearly showed the bridge’s twisted remains.

Ukraine said it was ready to give both Europe and America access to its missile warning systems after Russia earlier annulled a 1992 cooperation agreement involving two satellite tracking stations. Previously, the stations were part of Russia’s early-warning system for missiles coming from Europe.

“The fact that Ukraine is no longer a party to the 1992 agreement allows it to launch active cooperation with European countries to integrate its information,” a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

It follows a declaration earlier this week from Ukraine’s pro-Western president, Viktor Yushchenko, that the Russian naval lease of the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Sebastopol would be scrapped if any vessels joined the conflict in Georgia.

The crisis over Russia’s display of military might in Georgia has alarmed ex-Soviet satellites states in a broad arc from the Baltics to Central Asia. Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, all of which harbour bitter memories of Soviet occupation, have expressed solidarity with the Georgian position.

Yesterday President George W. Bush hailed what he saw as progress in resolving the Georgia crisis, describing the ceasefire agreement as “a hopeful step.”

He reiterated, though, that the disputed regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia remained part of Georgia, despite Moscow’s insistence that they should now be allowed to become part of Russia. “There’s no room for debate on this matter,” said Mr Bush. “The international community is clear that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are part of Georgia and the US fully recognises this reality.”

Meanwhile, disturbing reports of abuse of ethnic Georgians in captured parts of the disputed region emerged. A group of captive soldiers were paraded in the streets of the South Ossetian capital, Tskinvali, and the bodies of at least 40 dead troops rotted in the sun.

Teams of ethnic Georgians, some under armed guard, were forced to clean the streets. It was the first apparent evidence of humiliation or abuse of Georgians in the Russian-controlled breakaway republic.
